we all have stories.

Compassion and connection are what makes this life so rich.

After graduating from Cornell University, I served as an AmeriCorps volunteer and worked for an educational non-profit supporting immigrant and refugee families. I have photographed as a volunteer for numerous non-profits, I would love to donate my time to your cause. Please reach out!

Book of Dead Trees

During COVID, we all hopefully had some more space and time to breathe and notice. I noticed Dead Trees. Dead Trees are the ecological foundation of the entire forest. Reciprocity and altruism are the pillars of the life/death cycle.

When I see these elegant skeletons, it makes me think of the gifts that have been given and the paths that were paved by those who are no longer living.

There is much beauty in these images of death. The weathering from the wind; knobby, crooked branches; elaborate patterns from beetle infestation, rings from decades of growth - these are all the  marks of life.

I hope these images contributes to a shift in our society. One where we are more aware of the complex interconnectedness of all life, and the cyclic nature that is apparent in all things.

Eye Bank in Nepal

During my time in Nepal, I volunteered at Eye Bank, which is part Tilganga Eye Hospital. I documented their entire process for cornea transplants.

The day begins with doctors going to Pashupatinath Temple (the major cremation site of Kathmandu) to ask incoming families if they would the corneas removed from their transitioned relatives. The only way to fix certain blindness is with a cornea transplant from a donor.

The Eye Bank has created a cultural shift through a public awareness, getting many more families consenting to donating. A memorial service is organized every year. The families of the donors pay respect to their deceased relative and the benefactors (cornea transplanted patients) join in to express gratitude and share their experience of their journey from darkness to light.

Suddenly You Are Nobody: Vermont Refugees Tell Their Story

A two year photography project of portrait photos for a book about refugees who live in Burlington, Vermont.

This book is about specific individuals, but is a story not uncommon to many refugees - leaving home under life threatening circumstances, arriving in a new country with nothing except memories and stories that no one knows. The stories are incredible, and it serves as a reminder to be kind, be understanding, be open and smile. The book was written by Jared Gange, and can be bought on Amazon.
